Favorite  Song

Music By: Mark Thomas / Lyrics By: Mark Thomas & Angie Bowie - 1974/1984

Its time to wake
Time to go to work
Time to turn on your radio

Lite a smoke
Make a run for the head
You got to hurry now you cant be slow

Take a shower
Shave and run
But don't slam your finger in the door

The sun is shinning
And the day is hot
But you’re moving right along

Your feeling better
As the day goes on
You just heard your favorite song

Every body’s got a favorite song
We all have a favorite song
Every body’s got a favorite song
You’ll hear it on the radio

Her's is happy
His is sad
Every body's got a different bag

Her's is happy
His is sad
Every body's got a different bag

Song Story:
I wrote this song on a hot summer day after slamming my finger in the back door to my moms house when I was leaving in a hurry to go to work. Then in the 80's while working for Paul I met and spent a lot of time with Angie Bowie. During that time Angie re-wrote some of the lyrics for this song.

Going Home

Music & Lyrics By: Mark Thomas - 2003

At 8:00 I’ll be in Georgia
I’ve watched the sun go down a again
With seven states between my home sweet home
And now I’m on going home again

I’m going home
I’m going home

Mother and Father will be so glad
Remember the best times I ever had
My brothers and sisters will be there too
And I know this trips over due

8:00 I’ll be in Georgia
I’ve watched the sun go down a again
With seven states between my home sweet home
Now I’m rolling home again

I’m going home
I’m going home

I’ll go and climb my favorite tree
I’ll bounce the children on my knee
I’ll take a swim in the Canoe Brook lake
I’m going home for goodness sake

At 8:00 I’ll be in Georgia
I’ve watched the sun go down a again
With seven states between my home sweet home
And now I’m going home again

I’m going home
Where I belong
I’m going home
Been gone to long

Song Story:
In 2003 I was living in my Van in Florida and I had run out of money. My Mom and Dad sent me money to drive home to Connecticut so I could get back on my feet. When I started driving home I saw the most beautiful sunset, then I spotted a sign that said Georgia 75miles. I looked down at my watch and said to myself at 8:00 I'll be in Georgia and I watched the sun go down again. I pulled over and looked at a map to see that Georgia is 7 states away from Connecticut. Realizing this rhymed I pulled into a rest stop, picked up my guitar and began writing this song about what it will be like going home after 30 years.

Rock N Roll Man

Music & Lyrics By: Mark Thomas & Jeff Beers - 1992

When I was younger
My mama told me
Follow your dreams and they’ll take you where you’re going

Up and over
To new horizons
Just be strong as you go on

Head for the sunset
Head for LA
They say the stars keep shinning there night and day

So I moved westbound into the city
I never ever got a little bit of pity
But I got rained on so many times
I didn’t think the sun was ever gunna shine on me

Till I started singing in a band
Trying to make a modern day stand
Singing in a band
Through the shades of a rock n roll man

She said to sing with all my might
And work my fingers to the bone
Now I could show that mom was right
Soon the band will play back home

I say don’t give up
Don’t loose your pride
And never let no body take you for a ride
One day you’ll look back and feel so proud
To know you worked so hard to push yourself through the crowd

Singing in a band
Trying to make a modern day stand
Singing in a band
Through the shades of a rock n roll man

Song Story:
In 1988 I put an add in a music connection paper looking for a songwriter/guitar player like me. Someone whom I could not only relate to but a guy or girl I could write songs with. When I meet Jeff he was my age grew up in Boston and we immediately became in-separable. The song started out as an angry, rebellious kid wanting to become a rock star to rub it in every bodies face. Then Jeff said why dose it have to be angry?, my mom encouraged me in a loving way. That is when we decided to go Jeff's route and write about how his mom encouraged him to go for his dreams. Jeff and I went on to write several songs together over the years and still remain friends to this day.

Lydia

Music & Lyrics By: Mark Thomas - 2011

I wrote a song Lydia
This is your song Lydia
The way you make me feel Lydia
When I'm under your spell Lydia

I'll take you any place you want to be
I'll take you any place and set you free
I'll take you any place so you can see
I want you standing next to me

When I met you I was foolish and didn't have a clue
The blinding power of your love girl and just what it could do
The first look in your eyes and I'm sure that's when I knew
Lydia I'd fall in love with you

You turned my heart around and made me see
How happy I could be with you loving me
One day I'll show you baby what you've done for me

Now I'm the man I'm supposed to be

I wrote a song Lydia
This is your song Lydia
The way you make me feel Lydia
When I'm under your spell Lydia

You were gentle I was patient and we made it to
Another place that we both dreamed of and our dream came true
I'm jumping off the deep end and I don't know what to do
Lydia I fell in love with you
I'm jumping off the deep end and I don't know what to do
Lydia I fell in love with
Lydia I fell in love with
Lydia I'm still in love with you

Song Story:
When I was dating Lydia she asked me to write a song about her, I told her that I couldn't just write a song off the top of my head. She took that as me not really being interested in her. I racked my brains trying to come up with a song for her. The song took 3 months to write, by the time I was finished so was our relationship. This song for me is the best song I have ever written to date. I personally love this song and as the song states I still love Lydia. This was another great, to short time in my life.

Classical Music

Music & Lyrics By: Mark Thomas - 1990

Some classical music
A bottle red wine
Is fine by my baby

All that it takes
To make me so happy
Is lying by my baby

She picks me up when I’m down
I can’t frown
When I’m lying by my baby

She’s my one desire
Sets my nights fire
When I’m lying by my baby

Hey Baby
I think we better settle down
Got to get our feet back on the ground
Hey Baby
Lets stop fooling around
Going to turn our whole world upside

As bright as the sunshine
It makes me feel that fine
Lying by my baby

Running my fingers
All through her hair
Lying by my baby

Hey Baby
I think we better settle down
Got to get our feet back on the ground
Hey Baby
Lets stop fooling around
Going to turn our whole world upside

When the sun comes up in the morning
And we head into another day
She’ll go off and do her own thing
But my love it doesn’t fade away
Cause I know she’s coming back soon
To spend another day
And when she struts her stuff right by me
I’ll say stay lady stay

Hey Baby
I think we better settle down
Got to get our feet back on the ground
Hey Baby
Lets stop fooling around
Going to turn our whole world upside down

Song Story:
Had a very wild relationship with a beautiful lady. We liked to drink wine and listen to classical music. Our relationship was hot / cold and very explosive. We never knew from one day to the next if we would still be together. In this song I was trying to tell her we should just settle down and quit living life in the fast lanes.

Sylvie

Music By: Mark Thomas - Lyrics By: Mark Thomas & Veda Soloman – 1985/1996

You’re a lady in the first degree
You’re dark eyes are full of mystery
Makes me wonder when you look at me
If you’re real or just a fantasy
Gunna move in on you carefully
I can’t slip this possibility

Sylvie - Please come by tonight
Sylvie - I will treat you right

You’ll come by and we’ll talk awhile
I won’t rest till I make you smile
Try to come up with the perfect line
Like they did in the old movie time
Baby let my ole guitar unwind
Say exactly what is on my mind

Sylvie - Please come by tonight
Sylvie - I will treat you right

I’m not fooling around
I’m just trying to get close to you
Your gunna be so glad that you found
Someone who appreciates

You’re a lady in the first degree
And I know that you’re the one for me

If I have to I’ll wait patiently
Give you all the time you need to see
That I take you seriously
Want to make you my reality

Sylvie - Please come by tonight
Sylvie - I will treat you right
Sylvie - Both of us will score
Sylvie - You’ll be back for more

I want to hold you say I told you let our bodies mold together baby
By the fire light
I want to wine and dine and spend the time caressing you and feeling fine
Each and every night
I want to squeeze you wanna please you wanna teas you till the end of time
You will say all right
I want to take you to the moon and back and treat you like you never had it
Stars are burning bright

Peace On Earth

Music & Lyrics By: Mark Thomas - 2007

You see him walking in the rain
Such a lonely broken man
If you could only feel his pain
I’m sure you’d lend that man your hand

There’s people dying to be free
They want to be like you and me
Why cant all countries get along?
We must be doing something wrong

I wish more people were like me
If they were this world would be
A better place for you and me
And if it were I know we would see

Peace on earth – I want there to be
Peace on earth – I Pray everyday
Peace on earth

Martin Luther had a dream
It wasn’t just some silly scheme
What ever happened to his plan
To reunite our fellow man

I wish more people were like me
If they were this world would be
A better place for you and me
And if it were I know we would see

Peace on earth – I want there to be
Peace on earth – I pray every day
Peace on earth

Song Story:
Twice upon a time in my life I was homeless and living in my van. Dur-ring this time I met a lot of homeless people living on the streets. By being in this situation I became a very compassionate person. The guy in the rain which inspired me to write this song is a man I met in Palm Springs Ca. He was in the middle of an intersection in a wheel chair and had no legs. It was pouring rain and people were driving by blowing their horns. I stopped to buy him a bottle of wine and we started talking, he lost his legs in Viet Nam.

The van was my house for many years and had over 250,000 miles on it. This van had been to most cities in the US
